Prof Sang Won Yoon of BU is a distinguished visiting professor in the department of Computer Science and Engineering.

President Stenger in his address to the dignitaries and faculty members present during the inauguration, said
I had an excellent visit to Nirma University, a leading academic partner for Binghamton University in India. Nirma epitomizes an excellent academic environment and provides a superb learning environment for its students. Nirma, the State of Gujarat, and India are critical to our campus? efforts to broaden and deepen our international collaborations, especially in India.

The ?Center for Excellence? that focuses on Data Science is an excellent example of collaboration between faculty at Nirma and Binghamton. Working together, experts from both campuses are addressing problems that are critical to both nations, India and the USA. In addition to faculty exchange and student mobility, this Center serves as a catalyst for the continued development of new knowledge. It can, for example, have a positive impact on national priorities in India, such as the ?Digital India? initiative and the delivery of services to people in Gujarat and beyond.

Later this year, we are looking forward to (once again) welcoming faculty from Nirma to our campus, to collaborate with our faculty and students, in our labs, and to foster academic teamwork. In addition, we are looking forward to increasing the two-way, multi-faceted interaction between our two campuses (Nirma and Binghamton University).

Taking its collaboration to the next level, the two universities have jointly set up the Nirma-SUNY Binghamton Centre of Excellence in Data Science with an aim to enable development of innovative applications & research, in the field of Data Science and AI. Dr Priyank Thakkar and Dr Swati Jain are jointly coordinating the activities in CoE with Prof Sang Won Yoon from Binghamton side. Dr Alka Mahajan, Director said that it will prove to be an excellent knowledge resource centre to build capacity, provide consultancy and customised training programmes in Data Science & AI for the industry, academia and other organisations.
