Team ‘Vaayuputras’ consisting of Myself Chittal Patel (18BCE045) and Dhruvil Dholariya (18BCE054) have emerged as Runners Up in the IBM Hack Challenge 2020 and have received Rs.25000 worth prizes per person each.
IBM organizes this Hack Challenge every year and this year over 4500 teams from all over India participated. The team had to develop a website/app solution for one of the six problem statements given by IBM. They chose “Predicting the energy output of a wind turbine based on weather condition”. All participants had one month to build the solution. They built a website and hosted it on IBM Cloud and for Wind power prediction using Deep Learning Techniques for Time Series forecasting.
Selected in GSoC 2020 under the NumFOCUS organization which maintains and fiscally supports many open source scientific packages like NumPy and MatPlotLib. He will be working on the project statement “Higher Level API for Gaussian Processes and Optimization Methods in PyMC4” this summer.
Divya Mathur and Parth Desai are selected in the top 250 teams all over the country to receive the Facebook scholarship for Open Spark AR Programme by the School Of Innovation from Facebook and SV.CO. They are currently being given industrial exposure and guided by mentors from Facebook to develop a working project in Augmented Reality.

Mr Vedant Parekh, student of Department of Computer Science and Engineering (Roll number-18BCE144) has completed the Quantum Qiskit challenge organized by IBM Quantum which was a national level competition in india. It is held between 1/8/20 to 15/8/20. He is awarded two certificates from IBM Quantum. He had a rank of 85 in TEAM Completing Variational Quantum Classifier algorithm with accuracy of 75.5 %.
A team of 4 students and their mentor have participated in national level BootaThon organized by IIT Bombay and IIT Kanpur. The team has secured second position in this national event after beating a number of participating teams. They have also received Silver Developer Certificate by the organizers.
Shivam Patel, a final year graduate student has worked with “Mila: The Quebec AI institute” at the University of Montréal in Canada during his summer internship in 2019. He was funded by Microsoft Research Canada. He worked on understanding the economics of climate change. The title his research was “Applying Deep Reinforcement Learning techniques for determining optimal Climate Policy “. Shivam is also a visiting undergraduate researcher at IIT Bombay and working with researchers at University of Toronto Statistics department for a paper in the prestigious NIPS conference.
